Inaugural SWAS Excellence Awards to Recognise Industries

The Spa & Wellness Association of Singapore (SWAS) announced in mid-April that they will be launching the inaugural SWAS Excellence Awards in a bid to recognise skills, competencies and excellence of practitioners in the Beauty, Hair, Nail and Spa industries. This is held in conjunction with the International Beauty & Wellness Forum (organised by the Asia Pacific Hairdressers and Cosmetologist Association together with SWAS) and SWAS hopes that the awards will better consolidate the active practitioners in Singapore, and from the participation and results, set some industry benchmarks that will help enhance service standards.

SWAS has worked tirelessly to seek recognition for practitioners in the spa and wellness industry, pertaining to their professionalism and competency. Highly-skilled professionals and service workers enhance value, satisfaction and ensure the safety of their patrons. They are also great assets to salons and spas, as they provide a competitive advantage,” says Edward Wong, President of SWAS. “We look forward to the active participation and support of practitioners and businesses in the industry. We strongly urge consumers to participate, to support and encourage your service provider(s) to pursue higher competencies in order to serve you better.”

There are a total of 20 categories for the awards, including spa and salon services such as Sports Massage and Nail Art. Both individuals and establishments may participate in multiple categories, with practitioners who hold recognised qualifications or have been exempted due to relevant experience and age. Nominations and voting started from 15 April 2019 and will close on 11 August 2019. Nominees will then be reviewed by the SWAS Selection Committee before judges from the industry award their points. As the awards are meant to honour professional excellence, the standards of service will be judged by the customers, which is why there is a Customer Service Index which allows public voting and will take up 50 out of a 100 points per participating nominee. Judging will close on 9 September and the Awards Ceremony will be held on 11 October. Voters will also stand a chance to win beauty and wellness packages should the nominee they voted for wins.
