SS18 Beauty Trends You’ll Love

Spring/Summer 2018 beauty is all about taking it a step further, being bold and seeing how far we can actually push it, and then finally doing it. From minimal romantic visions to unapologetically bold black looks, we have seen it all on the runway this season and we can’t help but try them all out. Here is an exclusive guide to everything you need to know about the top beauty trends of the season and how to successfully achieve them.

The modern eyeliner

Although black eyeliner is nothing new in the beauty community, the classic cat eye has been revamped this season. Apart from experimenting with different shapes and bold colours, the modern eyeliner look focuses mostly on the placement. Instead of having your liner hug the length of your lash line, it can sit anywhere you like. This season we have seen an abundance of innovative eyeliner placements, from opaque almond-shaped flicks to fine flicks layered on top of one another in the corner of the eye. Looks starting high in the crease with chunky flat sweeps of black were also a popular choice. But the most unique looks so far have been the interesting graphic shapes at the outer corner of the eyes.

Sun kissed lids

One of favourite trends this season is the neutral-toned eye shadow colours which add depth and shadow to your eyes, while also complimenting the natural shades that already exist in your skin and hair and bringing them to light. Don’t choose a colour that is too brown or too orange, because they can easily create the opposite of the desired effect, but rather opt for a neutral chestnut shade. No need for heavy, over-the-top makeup anymore, one simple carefully chosen shade will do the trick. Don’t be afraid of looking bland by using similar, if not the same shade of bronzer and lipstick, as they will give you that healthy, glowing sun-kissed look without much effort.

Porcelain skin

As the trend of fresh, glowing skin is increasing in popularity, skincare is no longer just for prepping, it has become an integral part of any make up look. Having a good moisturising skincare routine helps your skin become clearer and smoother, which in return lets the make up sink into your skin with ease and gives you a seamless finish. Bases such as BB or CC creams are a popular choice for evening out the skin tone, along with lightweight concealers. Contouring has almost become a thing of the past, as most make up artists rather decide on neutral bronzers to add depth and dimension. However, subtle brighteners and highlighters are recommended for achieving that lit-from-within glow.

The new red lip

Red lips are an everlasting classic, but this season they were all about fresh application and modern finishes. If you prefer a matte lip, forget about precise lip liners and go for a diffused look. Take a small blending brush and blur out the edges of your lips to achieve a soft-focus finish and freshen up your look in seconds. If, on the other hand, you are tired of seeing the matte look everywhere you go, then you are in luck. There’s a big trend of shiny and glossy makeup this season. Use a shiny top coat or a holographic lip gloss with lots of pigment to easily pull off the ‘wet look’ red lip trend.

Glossy raspberry lips

A high-shine pout was one of the most seen looks on the runways this season, with a beautiful array of shades ranging from coral to raspberry and cherry, to suit every skin tone. Instead of using heavy liquid lipsticks, try to pick out a tinted lip balm or lip stain, which give you that non-perfect finish you should aim for. You could also try putting a shiny lip gloss or lip lacquer over your favourite rosy lipstick, but the best way to achieve this look is to use a lip pencil in the centre of your lips, blend it out with your finger and top it off with a glossy lip balm.

Any look is possible to achieve, just be bold and brave and don’t be afraid to experiment.
