Let Out your Creative Side at The LASALLE Show

In a world that is becoming more aware of art and its place in culture, it is a perfect time for people to truly explore their creative sides and see what they can do. It’s for this reason that LASALLE College of Arts has its annual LASALLE Show where it highlights the skills and promise of its graduating class so that they can show the world what they’re made of.

The LASALLE Show won’t just be your typical artistic pieces as students are encouraged to show the fruits of their labours from their years of studying. From sculpting to painting and even student-made films, they’re bringing out everything they have to offer.

The world is happy to oblige as well. The annual event attracts keen interest from ministries, statutory boards and the creative industries, with distinguished individuals attending to demonstrate their support of an arts education and to witness how today’s young talents might shape the trajectory of Singapore’s tomorrow.

The LASALLE Show season started back in early April and will last all the way to May, giving everyone a chance to check out this festival for themselves. You’ll be able to see all of the new productions from its Faculty of Performing Arts, featuring commissioned works executed in close collaboration with industry veterans. You’ll get to look at the works of creative minds such as playwright, Alfian Sa’at, legendary French choreographers, Annie Vigier and Franck Apertet, as well as the presentation of Urinetown – a revolutionary Broadway hit.

All of that is only in April. Once May rolls around the fashion scene will descend upon us, and you’ll witness the daring fashion show by BA(Hons) Fashion Design & Textiles students, who have received generous sponsorships from Swarovski, Converse and Takasago for their bold collections.

Lastly, LASALLE closes with a look at the Avant Premiere, a blockbuster screen of BA(Hons) Film students’ short films and documentaries that will take place at LASALLE’s The Projector. At this time guests will also get a look at the graduating students’ final exhibitions.

Throughout this solid two months, LASALLE students take stock of their creative journey with the College and look towards their future careers in the arts. With much innovative insight to absorb and exciting energy to experience, The LASALLE Show is one to put down on the calendars. The season runs from 4 April 2018 to 30 May 2018. Highlights especially not to be missed include:

  • Urinetown (18 Apr – 21 Apr, 8:00pm) Winner of three Tony Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards, two Lucille Lortel Awards and two Obie Awards, the BA(Hons) Musical Theatre graduands presents Urinetown – a musical satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, municipal politics and musical theatre itself.
  • The Fold: LASALLE Graduate Fashion Show (3 May, 7:00 pm) A full-fledged fashion show featuring 12 shortlisted collections put together by the graduating students of LASALLE’s Ba(Hons) Fashion Design and Textiles programme. The theme for this year brings forward an understanding of a continuous process in fashion; wherein each season emerges from the previous one through a process of folding and unfolding from the old into the new.
  • The LASALLE Show Exhibition 2018 (Opening 17 May, 7:00pm; Exhibition period till 30 May, 12:00pm – 8:00pm daily) A presentation of all final-year students’ work from the Diploma, BA(Hons) and MA Arts programmes, across all disciplines of Design, Fine Arts, Film, Media Arts, Dance, Music, Theatre, Art Therapy, and Arts Management.

Of course, there are still a lot more events going on throughout the festival that you can browse through. Either way, you shouldn’t miss your chance of seeing what the future artists of Singapore have to offer in all of their glory.
