5 Must Have Beauty Products for Beginners

There are so many beauty products in the market that it is really hard to figure out which are the essentials and which are the “good to have”. Fear no more and let a make up artist give you the low down. Moreover, this list of must-have items recommended are not just easy to use, they are wallet friendly as well!

La Roche-Posay Effaclar H 40ml US$28.99

1. Good moisturiser

Every good skin begins with skincare and the most important is your moisturiser. We cannot stress enough how important moisturing is. You may not see it with your naked eyes but it will pay off in the future. Everyone needs to moisturise no matter which skin type you have. Only once is your face well moisturised will your make up look its best and not cakey or resemble an oil slick. Keep skin hydrated is an important step toward keeping it healthy. A water-based moisturiser is recommended (especially if you live in the tropics with high humidity) as it does not clog pores and rehydrates skin. Keep the oil-based ones for night use, unless you have oily skin.

bareMinerals Foundation Primer US$24.00

2. Face primer

A primer helps your make up last longer and in the long run, it helps you to save on foundation. This is because a good primer means that you need not use a ton of foundation and it also eliminates the need to touch up every so often. It acts as a glue for the foundation on your face and lock in the moisture.

Eyelash Curler US$3.99

3. Eyelash curler

This is one of the most underrated beauty products but it really helps to open up your eyes and instantly gives you the “awake” effect without much effort. Use it before applying your mascara to ensure the best effect.

BH Bliss Lash Mascara US$5.99

4. Mascara

This is the key product to help to “open” the eyes. Not only it helps in giving you fuller lashes, but it can also be used as an eyeliner. Surprise surprise! But if you’re a  beginner, stick to a proper eyeliner pencil first before experimenting with a mascara brush as you do not want to end up with weird lines. Use a waterproof mascara if you’re in a humid country or if you have oily eyelids as this will prevent smudging and your lashes from drooping towards the end of the day.

bhCosmetics Ashley Tisdale Cheek & Lip Tint US$5.99

5. Cream rouge

Why a cream rouge/blusher instead of powder you ask? Firstly, cream products stay on a lot longer compared to powder so you need not touch up your blusher as the day goes. Moreover, other than using it on your cheeks, you can use the cream rouge on your lips as a matching lipstick! We love beauty products that have multiple uses and this ensures that you only need one product in your make up pouch.
