Happening on 10th December 2016 at National Gallery Singapore, this is the first yoga event held at the iconic museum. ‘Om Is Where The HeART is’ will see three consecutive yoga sessions helmed by Yoga Mandala, Yoga Lab, and Outta Hatha. Home-grown sweetheart, Sara Wee, lead singer of the band 53A, will also be co-leading a session together with her team from Yoga Mandala where she teaches. Other recognisable yogis include Jasmine Chong, Jessica Sinclair and SOULSCAPE’s co-founder Theresa Shan.
This fundraising yoga event is jointly organised by Community Chest and SOULSCAPE. All proceeds raised from the sale of entrance fees will go to Community Chest, supporting beneficiaries from about 80 charities. Ms Ng Ling Ling, Assistant Chief Executive Officer of the National Council of Social Service and Managing Director of Community Chest, said, “Christmas is the season of giving and remembering the less fortunate around us. Community Chest is delighted to work with various partners to promote not just health and wellness, but the joy of giving as well. By bringing together like-minded people to participate in this first ever charity yoga event at the National Gallery, we hope to create greater awareness and understanding of the causes and social service organisations that we serve.”
Apart from yoga classes held within the tranquility of the Supreme Court Terrace, participants can also find an array of health products and art items at the Wellness and Art Market happening concurrently alongside the yoga sessions. Local art group, Band of Doodlers, will also be installing a community wall mural at the Wellness and Art Market, encouraging the event participants as well as other museum visitors to contribute to the wall. This communal art piece will be auctioned after the event, where proceeds will go to helping Community Chest’s beneficiaries build a better tomorrow.
“The undulating body in a yoga flow is like art in movement and the chosen space for ‘Om Is Where The HeART is’ promises to be a truly inspiring and uplifting setting for you to express that. The gallery projects a sense of ‘strength and calm’ and we invite everyone to come en- gage the mind and body and experience this historical building in a new way,” said Marc Dass, co-founder of SOULSCAPE, “This collaboration also allows us to give back to the community, raise awareness and funds for those in need”
Registration prior the event is advised and can be done at bit.ly/OmIsWhereTheHeartIs, where adonation entitles participants to one yoga session of their choice. A donation of $80 and above entitles participants to a goodie bag with yoga items, worth $170.
